Im 21 years old and it is finally time to get my wisdom teeth pulled because they are beginning, well.. have been hurting now for a while… what should i do to prepare for this? and what are some good recommendations for after the surgery… should i get 2 pulled at a time? or is it best to have them all pulled? should i choose to be numbed or put under anesthesia?

Get put under anesthesia for sure. It’s painful and I **** having surgery and procedures done. This will make it a lot less scary for you, however, it will still be painful. Eat a lot of liquidy foods afterwards, and keep the painkillers on you. Beware of dry sockets. I’m not sure exactly what they have you to, but it happens if you get air in the holes where your teeth used to be. You have to undergo some other procedure which I’ve heard is very painful. This can happen when you’re brushing your teeth and you spit, yawn, slurp, or anything really. Just be careful! And good luck. The pain will eventually go away. You’ll have some bleeding too and a bad taste in your mouth for a while, so keep mints handy and if you eat noodles or something, be careful when you chew. You don’t want little pieces of food getting stuck in there either.
1 I would have them all out together. Get it over and done with.
2 go for the general and just be put totally to sleep. You wake up and its over.
3 Get plenty of painkillers from your dentist.
4 Stock up on soft foods and smoothies – you will not be able to chew
5 Lightly rinse with saltwater to help stop infection and rinse.
OWWW I just had that done… I had four taken out tho. It’s better to just get them over and done with because when you do two, you will not want to go back there. Make sure that when you brush your teeth not to snaggle the toothbrush back there. Your mouth will not open for more than a couple inches so buy applesauce and mashed potatos. Make sure to have plenty of pain medication, vicodin couldn’t even help me. You might need to miss work or school for a few days. Your ears will hurt like crazy too. make sure to rinse out your mouth every time you eat other wise it will smell like a trash disposal! lol. I had to be numbed and put under anesthesia. It hurts way too much. My cheeks were even larger than the chipmunks for the first week.
You can just do the ones that are hurting you now, or all at once (might be better).
When they did 2 of mine. I was awake. He shot me up with a whole bunch of numbing stuff. I didnt feel nothing, I just knew he was there. THey told me what they were doing. Made a small cut and then pulled it out. They gave me my prescription for pain and went home. It was sore once the numbing stuff wore off, but not like painful. After a day, I was fine. So its not that big of deal.
Just after words, rinse after your meals and be careful when you brush till it fully closes in that spot. They do put like one stitch or 2.
In terms of before care there is nothing really that you have to do, besides take care of your teeth as you would do normally. The after care is what is important. I had 3 of my wisdom teeth pulled last year, by my father whom is a dentist. Even though I was heavily medicated and it did not hurt very much while they were getting pulled, the recovery is a little more painful. About a year and a half to two years later I started having on again off again pain in my mouth where the last tooth was and eventually I developed intense headaches that kept me up all night as a result of having the last wisdom tooth still in my mouth. I would say getting them all pulled at once would be your best bet so you do not have to recover from getting them pulled multiple times. Talk to your dentist or orthodontic surgeon about your options. He/she should have no problem discussing options for how many teeth to get pulled at once and whether or not you should get anesthesia or have your mouth numbed.
In terms of after care. I know that I was given a prescription for a powerful pain medication along with antibiotics because your body is weakened from any surgical procedure. I can assume you will be given something like this along with aftercare instructions from whomever does your surgery. I found this website which I think had some good suggestions. Check it out:
I hope this helps.
