Fight Till The Death!
1) jumping pushups
2) eat eggs and drink black coffee right before your match.
The main thing, as you doubtless know, is that the Kumite, or sparring, is continuous and goes until the first knockdown.
Meaning, you need to plan ahead, and both train for and eat for endurance. I would recommend getting more cardio, particularly of an upper-body sort on a rowing machine, as well as lots of heavy bag work, as you will be throwing a *lot* of body punches if your fights go the distance. I would also look into getting more fiber and complex carbs into your diet in the month leading up to the tournament–don’t over do it or you will gain weight, but start more than a week early so your body is used to holding on to calories for exertion.
In the week leading up to the tournament, if you are doing the Kumite/fighting, you would be well served to test your ability to keep standing and moving after hard body shots, either with a partner in training reverse punches, or by doing crunches while a partner jams a medicine ball *lightly* into your abs (the weight of the ball should be enough). Also raise your salt intake *slightly*, just enough to get you retaining water so you don’t have to hydrate so much during the tournament….drinking water after taking a lot of body shots doesn’t work, the blunt impact will make you need to ***…
This is what I’ve heard works from my older sister, who earned her brown belt in shotokan in about a year, training five-plus days a week, and from her and a few of my uncles who were also into boxing. Of course, your mileage will vary, especially if you aren’t competing in Kumite, but rather just doing kata or breaks or something….
Wait a minute, *Kyokushin*, of course you’re fighting, sorry. Good luck, I hope this helps. -_- Just know, win or lose, you rock. Really. ^_^
it may seem ironical, but stop doing kumite for atleast a month before the tournament. thats wht i did for my tornaments. how does it help?
1) of course you wont have risk of injury.
2) it builds up an intense hunger to fight in the tournament and brings out the best in you.
wht you shud be concentrating in this one month is your fitness and attacking combinations.
make sure you always have a sure point winning combination in your reserve.
all the best.
DO NOT raise your salt intake! Salt dehydrates you. Otherwise, spar as much as you can and work on toughening your body. The sparring will raise your endurance, try to spar longer and longer each time, when you can’t spar do cardio: run around your neighborhood, on a treadmill, or in place at a moderate run. Not sprinting but not jogging, somwhere in between the two; try to run at that speed for as long as possible without stopping. Every time you run, increase the time. This will help keep your energy level high and your fatigue low during your matches. Toughen yourself up by joging in place and slapping your arms and chest over and over again, or you can get these training tools used for toughening the arms and chest: they look like pieces of wood or brushes that you hit yourself with to toughen your skin.
For food eat vegetables, raw, and few meats, and whole grains. An hour before the match eat some light foods like an apple and a carrot or something similar. Too much food, or complex food like mcdonald’s or pasta will drain your energy instead of giving you more.
Celibacy two weeks prior to the tournament makes your aggression sky rocket.
